When looking at baby puppies, keep in mind that all GWP puppies, except solid livers will be liver and white when they are born. The puppies that are Ticked or Roan, will gradually darken the first few months after they're born.
Also, when looking at coats, a puppy with a good coat will have minimal "furnishings" (that's their beard and whiskers) at 8 weeks of age. As with color, it will take a few months for the puppies to grow an adult coat. If you want an especially shaggy puppy, then the ones with a lot of hair at 8 weeks will be just for you! But, if you want a dog with a harsh, wirey coat that will function properly in the field, and requires minimal grooming, then you will want to select the puppy with just a hint of wiskers starting to appear.
We invite you to visit and subscribe to our Youtube page to see all of our German Wirehaired Pointer videos. Not only are there puppy videos from most of our previous litters, but there are also videos of our puppies and adults hunting, in the show ring, and out and about.
Great stories written by Tom about his hunting experiences with GWPs!
